BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a trade name for a diluted, purified form of botulinum toxin that is a potent muscle relaxant. We perform BOTOX treatments in Ann Arbor and Plymouth, MI by injecting extremely small doses into a specific muscle, causing the action of only that muscle to be relaxed. These simple treatments are very effective in improving wrinkles due to facial expressions, such as worry lines of the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow's feet around the eyes. Both women and men choose BOTOX to look naturally refreshed.
To find out if BOTOX treatments can give you the results you want, request a consultation at Ann Arbor Dermatology. Or you can call our office at (734) 996-8757 (Ann Arbor) or 734-455-6881 (Plymouth) and one of our knowledgeable staff members will be happy to assist you.
Answers to Your Questions About BOTOX Cosmetic
How does BOTOX work?
BOTOX relaxes the tiny muscles responsible for certain facial wrinkles. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal facial expression.
Are BOTOX treatments safe?
BOTOX injections have been safely used by thousands of patients over the last 20 years. BOTOX Cosmetic is produced in a controlled laboratory and given in extremely small doses. Although it is a toxin, it is safe when administered by a trained medical professional. The most common minor complication is a slight and very temporary drooping of the eyelid resulting from BOTOX injections. Patients can immediately resume full activity after their BOTOX treatment.
Is the procedure painful?
A very tiny micro-needle is used to inject the BOTOX, with a small amount injected at various sites on the face. A topical anesthetic is applied to the treated area prior to the injections to minimize any discomfort.
When will I see results following my BOTOX treatment?
Results are usually seen within 4 to 7 days.
How long do results from BOTOX last?
BOTOX Cosmetic results typically last 3 to 4 months, depending on the number of previous treatments. A memory response may develop with repeated BOTOX injections if they are done every 3 months for approximately 1 year. So although the effects are not permanent, there may be a gradual lengthening of the interval between treatments. Some people who visit our practice for laser hair removal from Detroit and surrounding areas combine it with a BOTOX treatment while they're here.
